Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink appointed as Floriade Commissioner General
Almere Municipal Board delighted with the appointment
Minister Schouten of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality has decided to appoint Annemarie Jorritsma-Lebbink, former mayor of Almere, as Commissioner General of the Expo 2022 Floriade Almere.
On 15 November 2017 Expo 2022 Floriade Almere received formal recognition from the BIE (the Bureau International des Expositions, in Paris) as an A1 international horticultural exhibition. The regulations of the BIE require the national government to appoint a Commissioner General for world expositions. The Commissioner General is then authorised to represent the national government for the registered world horticultural exhibition (the event).
The Executive Council of the city of Almere nominated Jorritsma-Lebbink as candidate for the position of Commissioner General. Minister Schouten accepted the nomination and officially appointed Jorritsma-Lebbink. Said Mayor Franc Weerwind, “I warmly congratulate Annemarie Jorritsma on this appointment. Her many years of political experience make her, in our opinion, the right person for this position. The Council is happy to have nominated an Almere candidate, who has now also been appointed by the Minister”.
Almere City councillor for the Floriade Loes Ypma is also pleased with Jorritsma’s appointment. “In addition to her extensive national and international network, Annemarie knows Almere extremely well. This appointment will accelerate Expo 2022 Floriade Almere promotion and the acquisition of exhibitors. We had a very positive first meeting, in which we both became increasingly more enthusiastic about the Floriade, the role Annemarie will play, and the opportunities for Almere.”
Former minister and deputy prime minister Jorritsma-Lebbink was mayor of Almere from 2003 to 2015. She has chaired the VVD (political party) in the Dutch Senate since 2015.
