China and Floriade Almere 2022 B.V. sign letter of intent

The letter of intent between the China Flower Association and Floriade Almere 2022 B.V. was signed on Wednesday 11 September. The China Flower Association (CFA) confirmed its participation in Floriade Expo 2022 during the Expo’s first official signing ceremony, at the Horticultural Expo Beijing.

This initiates China’s preparations for a substantial, high-quality presence at Floriade Expo 2022. In addition to a garden, and probably a pavilion, the participation will also include a broad programme of cultural events, including the Chinese National Day.

For Floriade Almere 2022 B.V., the confirmation of China’s participation is an important milestone, with regard to the size of the Chinese exhibition and the positive effect Chinese participation will have on the ongoing negotiations with various countries, including those already committed.

Preparations for this agreement began in 2017 with talks between Floriade Almere 2022 B.V. and the China Flower Association (CFA) at various international conferences. The CFA is the Chinese government organisation responsible for the horticultural sector in China. Thanks in part to the close cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) and Foreign Affairs, the agreement with China was reached at a very early stage. Similar, diplomatic processes normally have a much longer turnaround time.

China’s participation will also present opportunities to create new relationships and to broaden and deepen existing economic ties, both for the city of Almere and for the province of Flevoland.
