The seventh edition of the international horticultural exhibition Floriade takes place in Almere. This new city in the province of Flevoland is built on land that was formerly the Zuiderzee, a shallow bay of the North Sea. The city has developed into one of the top ten cities in the Netherlands in 40 years’ time. A truly unique location for Floriade Expo 2022!
Host city Almere is the youngest city of the Netherlands. Without an centuries-old history, but with a remarkable story nonetheless. In 40 years’ time, Almere has developed into a place with exceptional architecture and lots of nature. Green and water are always nearby.
Flevoland is a unique province. Up until recently, where Flevoland lies now, there was only water. Flevoland province was established in 1986 and is the worlds largest artificial island. More than four metres below sea level, protected by dykes, you can now find endless landscapes, hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths, long beaches and unspoilt nature areas.
