The expo site will be developed as a Green City Arboretum by landscape developer Niek Roozen. The arboretum is serving as a model for green structure development in cities, and will consist of a variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, creepers, hydrophytes and flower bulbs. These plants will all contribute to a green, healthy and sustainable city. Around 3000 species have been selected which contribute to the ideal green city in terms of biodiversity, air purification, food production and city climate management.
The plants and trees in the arboretum will be planted in alphabetical order. Each lot within the grounds will be allocated a letter of the alphabet. A four-meter wide strip around each lot will contain plants and trees, and the first letter of the Latin genus name of each species matching with the letter allocated to the lot. We invite participants to choose a planting design that bears a relationship to their exhibit, country or city of origin.
In the ‘iStreets’ exhibit, the contribution of the Government of the Netherlands will take shape. It will become a living laboratory, and showcase revolutionary buildings and future living on the themes of ‘Feeding, Greening, Healthying and Energising the city’. The ambitions of Floriade Expo 2022 combine with those of iStreets in an inclusive, intelligent, and infinite living environment.
