OPTIONS to participate
Official participants are foreign governments and international organisations that accepted the official invitation of the Government of the Netherlands to participate in Floriade Expo 2022. They benefit from special agreements for visas and work permits as described in the General Regulations.
Other participants are ‘Exhibitors’ and recommended to follow their governments participation because of the benefits mentioned above.
Participating is possible in several ways. Outdoors with the garden exhibits, permanent or not. Also indoors with the tropical exhibition or best practices. Finally one can contribute with knowledge, already possible since 2018. All initiatives to participate need review and approval beforehand, which our team would be happy to help you with.
The site has a grid with 50 lots available for International participants, and several options for indoor exhibitions are developed as well. There will be an opportunity for a list of selected countries to participate in a collective thematic ‘greenhouse’ under special conditions. There is no information available on this yet, as it is under construction. Information will be available later.
– Outdoor option: garden, pavilion or both
An outdoor exhibition consists of a landscape design with a garden or a pavilion with a garden. The designs should reflect participant’s specific solutions, vision, and culture related to the Floriade theme and at least one of the sub-themes. Pavilions are permanent or temporary, and all built out of sustainable materials.
A horticultural exhibition starts with a garden. With the design and traditions of a participant’s home country, climate, and needs. The application for participation with a garden should answer the question on the integration of the theme Growing Green Cities and one of the sub-themes: Food, Health, Green or Energy. The garden will be an experience for visitors like ‘landing in another world’.
Garden and pavilion
A pavilion can be a part of the participation in completing the garden. This can be temporary or permanent, the latter is the so called ‘Green Embassy’.
As part of the exhibitions a temporary pavilion can be developed, to be removed after the Expo. These pavilions need to follow the regulations for temporary pavilions in the Netherlands, of which participants will be informed after final approval to participate. Materials used should be in line with the ambitions of Floriade Expo 2022 and comparable with those of Green Embassies.
Green Embassies are permanent pavilions, reflecting the vision of the participating government on the future of living in cities. It will be part of the new city district, therefore every pavilion needs to have an envisaged destination for after the expo, making it sustainable. Design, materials, and construction should be in line with the ambitions of Floriade Expo 2022 and include the final landscape design.
– Indoor option
There will be indoor space available for tropical exhibits, which are not suitable for the Dutch outdoor climate or because of conceptual limitations. There will also will be an area in which best practices are displayed and shared: all on green solutions for the Green Cities of the future.
A special area will be developed paying attention to ‘best practices’, for example solutions on the use of horticultural (waste?) materials as building materials, on brilliant ex-novation techniques and many others.
